GPT CLI
FreeChatGPT command-line tool with commit messages and shell commands
What is GPT CLI?
GPT CLI is an open-source npm package that brings ChatGPT into the terminal through plugins. Its best-known commands write Git commit messages from your diff and turn plain-English requests into shell commands you can approve before they run.
After a global npm install, running `gptcli commit` reads the current Git diff and proposes a commit message, with optional gitmoji or Commitizen-style formats. `gptcli command` takes a description such as listing all JavaScript files and asks for confirmation before executing the suggested command.
Other plugins cover translation, weather, Notion and Whisper transcription, and the project encourages you to assemble your own CLI tools from steps, much like a GitHub Actions workflow. It suits developers who want small AI helpers without leaving the shell.
