Theia IDE
FreeOpen-source AI-native IDE for desktop and browser
What is Theia IDE?
Theia IDE is an open-source code editor from the Eclipse Theia project that runs on the desktop or in the browser and builds AI assistance into its core. You connect your own API key or a local model, and it sends no telemetry on your code or prompts.
Any provider can be used, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, self-hosted or fully local models, and requests go straight to that provider rather than through a third-party proxy. That makes it a fit for teams with strict data rules who want an open alternative to Copilot or Cursor.
Theia is not a VS Code fork, but it runs VS Code extensions such as Python, GitLens, ESLint and Docker, and uses the Language Server Protocol for many languages. The underlying Theia Platform and Theia AI framework let companies build their own custom AI-native tools and IDEs.
