What is SillyTavern?
SillyTavern is a free, open-source chat interface you install on your own computer to roleplay and chat with AI characters. It connects to almost any model source, from OpenAI and Claude APIs to OpenRouter or a local llama.cpp server.
Character cards in a shared format store personality, greetings and example dialogue, and World Info entries inject lore when keywords appear. Extensions add text-to-speech, image generation, summaries and group chats.
Because it runs locally, chats stay on your machine and you only pay the model provider you choose. It is popular with power users who move from hosted apps like Janitor AI for more control.
