Microsoft 365 Agents SDK
FreeMicrosoft SDK for building agents that run in Teams, Copilot and the web
What is Microsoft 365 Agents SDK?
The Microsoft 365 Agents SDK is a free developer framework for building custom agents in Python, JavaScript or .NET and deploying them to Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot and other channels. It replaces the older Bot Framework SDK.
You write the agent's message handling in code and choose your own AI stack, such as Azure OpenAI, Semantic Kernel or LangChain, for the reasoning part. The SDK handles conversation state, activities and channel differences, and Microsoft's quickstart walks through a simple echo agent tested locally.
Agents built with it can be published to Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot, websites and other channels through Azure Bot Service. It is aimed at professional developers who want more control than low-code tools like Copilot Studio provide.
