Agent Skills
FreeOpen folder format for giving AI agents reusable skills
What is Agent Skills?
Agent Skills is an open format for packaging instructions, scripts and reference files that an AI agent can load when a task calls for them. Each skill is a folder with a SKILL.md file, and one skill works across any agent that supports the standard.
Agents read only each skill's name and description at startup, then pull in the full instructions when a task matches and run any bundled code or files as needed. This progressive loading lets an agent keep many skills available without filling its context window.
Anthropic first developed the format and released it as an open standard that many agent products now support. The site hosts the specification, a client showcase, guides for writing and evaluating skills, and notes for developers adding skill support to their own agents.
