Codestral
FreemiumMistral AI's code model for completion and fill-in-the-middle
What is Codestral?
Codestral is Mistral AI's model built for writing and completing code, trained on more than 80 programming languages from Python and Java to Swift and Fortran. Developers reach it through Mistral's API or IDE plugins, and the open weights can be downloaded for research use.
One API endpoint handles both instructions and fill-in-the-middle completion, which makes it a fit for autocomplete in editors as well as code generation, tests and explanations. It has been integrated into common tools such as Continue, Tabnine and other coding assistants.
The original 22B model shipped as open weights under the Mistral AI Non-Production License, which allows testing and research but requires a commercial agreement for production. Later versions are offered mainly through Mistral's hosted API.
