TORTUS
PaidAmbient voice AI that writes clinical notes for NHS clinicians
What is TORTUS?
TORTUS listens to consultations and drafts structured clinical notes, letters and referrals, with suggested clinical codes, so doctors can face the patient instead of the keyboard. It is built for the NHS and holds UKCA Class IIa certification as an ambient voice technology.
Audio is captured with speaker separation and encrypted on the device, and no patient audio is kept at rest. A safety layer called the Shell checks every statement in the draft against what was actually said, flags and removes unsupported content, and the clinician approves the note before it is filed into the electronic record.
It integrates with most NHS EPR systems and with X-On and Avaya telephony, and has been used in GP practices, A&E departments, outpatient clinics, mental health services and the London Ambulance Service clinical hub. TORTUS co-ran a large NHS evaluation of ambient voice technology across nine sites.
