Microsoft Agent Framework
FreeMicrosoft's open-source successor to AutoGen and Semantic Kernel
What is Microsoft Agent Framework?
Microsoft Agent Framework is an open-source SDK for building agents and multi-agent workflows in Python and .NET. It merges ideas from AutoGen and Semantic Kernel and reached version 1.0 in April 2026.
Developers build agents with tools, memory and middleware, then compose them into graph-based workflows with checkpointing and human approval. It includes multi-agent orchestration patterns and connectors to other agent SDKs. Agents can run anywhere or be hosted on Microsoft Foundry, and OpenTelemetry tracing is built in.
