What is Vane?
Vane, renamed from Perplexica in March 2026, is an open-source answering engine you run on your own hardware. It searches the web through a bundled SearXNG instance and writes cited answers using local or cloud models.
Vane works with Ollama and llama.cpp for local models, or providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic and Groq. Focus modes target academic sources, videos or discussions, and the old Perplexica GitHub URL now redirects to the Vane repository.
