PyCharm
FreemiumJetBrains' Python IDE with built-in support for running AI coding agents
What is PyCharm?
PyCharm is JetBrains' IDE for Python web development, data science and machine learning, now built around running and checking AI agents next to your code. You can connect agents on your own API key, an existing subscription or JetBrains AI.
Agents can run in the GUI or terminal, several at once across projects, and the IDE tracks which sessions are running, done or waiting. You comment on a line in a diff and send it back to the agent, then use the debugger, tests, profiler and database tools to verify the change.
A built-in MCP server shares PyCharm's code analysis with agents, and it connects them to a live Jupyter kernel so they can create and run real notebook cells. Beyond AI, it covers Django, FastAPI, uv dependency management, SQL cells in notebooks and Rust debugging alongside Python.
