Open Knowledge Maps
FreeNonprofit visual search engine that maps research topics with AI
What is Open Knowledge Maps?
Open Knowledge Maps creates a visual map of a research topic, grouping relevant papers, datasets and other outputs into concepts so you can see a field at a glance. It is run by a charitable nonprofit on open-science principles and is free to use.
Searches draw on more than 400 million research outputs in over 400 languages from more than 11,000 sources through the BASE search engine. Results span 25 output types, including publications, datasets, software and images, and the AI mapping is based only on the underlying metadata rather than generated text.
The project is funded collectively by supporting organizations instead of subscriptions, and libraries and institutions can become members. Maps help students and researchers start a literature search, find resources and identify the main concepts in an area.
