What is Mixedbread?
Mixedbread indexes PDFs, slide decks, video, audio, code and sources like Slack and Google Drive, then returns cited passages your AI agent can act on. Developers use it to give agents retrieval that costs fewer tokens and tool calls than letting the agent search on its own.
You upload files to a store through the Python or TypeScript SDK, and Mixedbread parses them with its own models in more than 100 languages. Searches pick a mode with one flag, from exact grep to semantic retrieval with reranking or agentic search, and return the source file, page and passage for every hit.
It plugs into Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode, MCP and a CLI, and offers Toast 1, a specialized agent that can act as a research subagent. Usage is billed per indexed token, query and stored token, with the same rates on every plan.
