What is Kilo Code?
Kilo Code is an open-source AI coding agent available as a VS Code and JetBrains extension, a CLI and a cloud agent. It gives access to hundreds of models through its gateway at provider prices, or you can use your own keys. Individuals use it free and pay only for inference.
Kilo offers modes for architecture, coding, debugging and orchestration, and can split a big task into subtasks. Many former Roo Code users moved to Kilo after Roo Code shut down in May 2026.
