HookGen

HookGen generates original short melodies, or hooks, using trained neural networks and lets you play them in the browser or download them as MIDI. It is a free experiment for musicians and producers looking for melody starting points.

Before generating you choose an emotion, sad or happy, and how complex the notes should be, then pick whether the hook is meant as an intro, middle or outro. Each result has a generation ID and can be exported as a MIDI file for use in a DAW.

The site learns from listening time: how long people play each generated hook is fed back to the model to shape future output. It is a hobby project by a single developer, and the last version was released in 2019.
