What is BibGenie?
BibGenie is a Zotero 7 plugin that adds an AI assistant for reading papers, searching your library and finding new research. It uses the open PDF and current page as context, and answers link back to the exact sources they came from.
You type @ to pull items, notes, tags or collections into a chat, or send selected passages, annotations, PDF pages and EPUB sections. Several sources can be combined in one prompt for comparisons and literature reviews, and answers can be saved as notes.
Library search works by keyword or meaning with local indexing, and OpenAlex discovery finds papers outside your library. You can bring your own API keys or run local models through Ollama or LM Studio. It works on macOS, Windows and Linux.
