P402 records each AI request with its owner, workflow, model, provider, token count and cost, so teams can see AI spend as it happens rather than on a monthly invoice. It is aimed at companies building AI products and finance teams that need to attribute and control that spend.
You can install it as an OpenAI-compatible endpoint, an npm SDK or an MCP server for VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, Claude Desktop and JetBrains. Metadata-only metering is the default, so prompts do not need to be stored, and fuller tracing is opt-in.
Reports cover cost per customer and feature, retry and context waste, and cache savings. A routing layer can send each call to one of 300+ models based on cost, speed or quality, and higher tiers add customer budgets and margin floors. Optional settlement features let AI agents pay with USDC on the Base network.
