What is Claude Agent SDK?
The Claude Agent SDK gives developers the same agent loop, tools and context management that power Claude Code, packaged as a Python and TypeScript library. It is used to build agents that read files, run commands and work for long periods.
Agents get built-in tools for files, shell, web search and code, plus hooks, subagents, skills, permissions and MCP connections. Sessions can be resumed, and hooks let you log or block any tool call.
Agents run in a process you operate and bill at Claude API rates. Anthropic also offers hosted Managed Agents for teams that don't want to run the loop themselves.
