BeFreed

BeFreed is a learning app that turns books, podcasts and other sources into short narrated lessons, read in a voice and style you pick. It is aimed at adults who want to learn in small daily sessions, with topics from psychology and career growth to history and finance.

You choose a book or add your own sources, then pick a narration style such as a deep dive, an explain-like-I'm-five version or a debate format. While a lesson plays you can ask questions and get quick background, and your highlights are turned into AI-written notes you can come back to.

The library covers more than 100,000 summaries and lessons, and paid users can generate up to 30 custom lessons a month on any topic. Listening works on the go with autoplay, a sleep timer and offline mode, and the team says it was founded by Columbia University alumni in San Francisco.
