What is Acres?
Acres is a desktop visual notes app for macOS and Windows that stores an infinite canvas of Markdown cards in a folder on your machine. A built-in assistant and outside agents such as Claude Code or Cursor can read the board and make edits you approve.
The AI dock works with your own key for Claude, GPT or Gemini, or with local models through Ollama or LM Studio. It can add cards, connections and sections, shows card rewrites as word-level diffs, and keeps changes in the undo history. Agents can also connect over MCP, and an activity log shows who changed what.
Beyond AI, Acres has whiteboard tools, a kanban built from checkboxes in your cards, a PDF reading desk, database views, mindmaps, nested boards and a daily journal. You can import an Obsidian vault or a Heptabase backup. It works offline with no account, and an optional subscription adds sync and publishing.
